A 63-year-old is appealing to life imprisonment after the judgment of the Freiburg Regional Court. The man had killed his ex-partner.

A brutal knife attack on two women in Freiburg, where a 59-year-old died, is a case for the Federal Court of Justice. The 63-year-old accused has appealed against the judgment of the Freiburg Regional Court for murder, attempted murder and dangerous bodily harm to life imprisonment, as his lawyer announced. “Such a judgment must be reviewed by the Federal Court of Justice.” The lawyer had therefore applied for a prison sentence for manslaughter. “From the point of view of the defense, there are no murder characteristics.”

When the verdict was announced on Wednesday, the presiding judge explained in detail why the court assumed murder. The accused wanted to kill his 30-year-old ex-partner out of anger about the separation and had a knife with him. Since the woman’s mother stood protectively in front of her daughter on the day of the crime in January of this year, the German also attacked her with a knife. The 59-year-old was defenseless and unsuspecting, so the procedure was insidious – a murder characteristic.

The judge also spoke of “incredible brutality” with which the man repeatedly stabbed the two women. The Chamber therefore also determined the particular gravity of the guilt. This means that early release from prison after 15 years is legally possible, but in practice it is almost impossible.

According to the court, the man had ambushed the women in front of the 30-year-old’s home and attacked them both. Mother and daughter wanted to flee to their apartment, but the man caught up with them.
