The indictment revealed gruesome details: A 28-year-old man stabbed his mother and stepfather more than 180 times. The public prosecutor sees “base motives”, the defense considers him to be mentally ill.

A 28-year-old man has been sentenced to life in prison for the double murder of his mother and stepfather. In addition, the district court of Hanover determined the particular gravity of the guilt. This means that early release from prison after 15 years is legally possible, but in practice it is almost impossible.

The accused planned the act, said the presiding judge. The background was the anger at the parents, who had taken away the key to their house in Hagen near Neustadt am Rübenberge.

With the verdict, the judges followed the request of the public prosecutor. The defense had requested that the accused German be placed in a psychiatric ward. The psychiatric expert had attested him to have autistic traits and a personality disorder. However, he made a conscious decision to act and was also fully capable of control. The court agreed with this assessment. The verdict is not yet legally binding.
