A fair in Rhineland-Palatinate is overshadowed by the violent death of a young man. Investigators comb the massive crime scene.
During an argument at a fair in Rhineland-Palatinate A 28-year-old was killed in Wittlich. He suffered a fatal stab wound on Saturday night, according to the police in Trier. The act is said to have happened in the festival area of the Säubrenner fair, which has been running since Friday. The police were on site on Saturday to secure evidence.
“Investigations are in full swing,” said a police spokesman. “We will gradually search the fixed area relevant to our investigation.” This is now “a huge crime scene” for the police.
According to the first findings of the officials, a group of two men and two women had left the crime scene in the city center shortly after the crime. One of the men had a bleeding injury in the face, possibly on the forehead, it said.
Police are looking for witnesses
The criminal police took over the investigation and is looking for witnesses. According to the spokesman, the officials assumed that there were still people celebrating at the time of the crime and may have made observations.
The incident overshadowed the traditional Säubrenner fair in Wittlich, which also attracts national visitors – the police had expected up to 100,000 people by the end of the folk festival next Monday.
The city spoke of a terrible act on its website. Because of the investigations, the parade planned for Saturday could not be held, several streets were also inaccessible and in parts of the city the fair program was canceled until 6 p.m. The police asked on Saturday to avoid the crime scene area and to listen to the instructions of the emergency services.
