Covered with sand, a departmental road still closed to traffic

It will only have been reopened for three short weeks. Following the weather conditions of recent days, departmental road 201 along Anse Du Guesclin in Saint-Coulomb, near Saint-Malo, is once again covered with sand. Not all motorists have experience of the Paris-Dakar, the coastal road was therefore closed to traffic on Tuesday afternoon and it will remain so “until further notice”, indicates the Ille-et departmental council. -Ugly.

After a strong gale with the passage of storm Elisa on November 10, the RD201 had already been completely silted up and closed for a week. At the start of the year, the scenario also occurred during storm Gérard which swept across the northern coast of Brittany.

“For several years now, these episodes have tended to multiply,” underlines the Ille-et-Vilaine departmental council. Recent studies on the evolution of the coastline and the prospects for climate change show that the dune is retreating on average by one meter every five years. In certain places this movement is stronger and reaches one meter per year. »
