Couple lose parental authority for breaking their two-month-old baby’s arm

It was the pediatric department of Rennes University Hospital which raised the alarm. While a two-month-old baby was hospitalized for constipation and crying, doctors finally discovered that the infant suffered from a fracture in his right arm. An injury inflicted by the child’s father, who was tried Thursday before the Vannes criminal court, as reported West France.

Keeping his child for the first time and no longer able to stand his crying, the defendant lost his temper in December 2021 and threw the baby on the sofa. While the infant’s arm had swollen, neither the father nor the mother saw fit to consult a doctor. They even blamed an osteopath they had consulted for their baby.

The latter has since been placed in a foster family, like the second child the couple subsequently had, precise The Telegram. At the end of the hearing, the father was sentenced to one year in prison and the mother to one year suspended. The couple also had their parental authority withdrawn.
