Australia: Strongly increasing corona numbers in Victoria

The Australian state of Victoria with the metropolis Melbourne has once again recorded a massive increase in new corona infections. After a maximum of 950 new cases had been reported within 24 hours the previous day, the number of new infections has now risen to 1,438. The authorities are alarmed, especially since the region on the east coast has been in a strict lockdown for almost two months. The regional government believes the surge is mostly related to the recent long weekend in Victoria, which despite the restrictions, would have met with their families and friends. Regional premiere Daniel Andrews said the situation was “absolutely preventable”. “We made it very clear that the numbers would go up if people didn’t follow the rules.” Victoria is locked down for the sixth time.

France: 3G rules also apply to children aged twelve and over

In France, the 3G rules and the mandatory health passport in the fight against the corona pandemic now apply to children from the age of twelve and two months. When visiting leisure and sports facilities, in cinemas, restaurants and cafés or on long-distance trains, adults will no longer have to submit proof of vaccination, recovery or negative test (3G). Since children can only be vaccinated from the age of twelve, a period of two months has been given to obtain full vaccination protection. While adults have to show a digital health pass with the relevant evidence in a mobile phone app, children and young people are also allowed to present a paper document. With proof that children and adolescents cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons, they are exempt from the 3G rules.

Close vaccination centers: GPs see themselves well equipped

With a view to the closure of many vaccination centers, general practitioners see themselves well prepared to ensure further corona vaccinations. In the initial phase, the centers would have made sense despite the high costs. “For the outstanding vaccinations, to which we urgently need to encourage more people, as well as for the booster vaccinations that are now due, we see ourselves well equipped in the general practitioners’ practices,” said the chairman of the German Association of General Practitioners, Ulrich Weigeldt, of the “editorial network Germany”.

“The practices are well prepared, also against the background that the consulting effort has increased,” said the chairman of the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians, Andreas Gassen, of the “editorial network Germany”.

US study: AstraZeneca vaccine with 74 percent effectiveness

The corona vaccine from the British pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca proved in a large-scale US study a 74 percent protection against Covid 19 disease. In people over the age of 65, the effectiveness even increases to 83.5 percent, according to the company’s clinical study. “I was pleasantly surprised,” said Anna Durbin, a vaccine researcher at Johns Hopkins University and one of the lead investigators. The vaccine also offers a high level of protection against serious illness and hospitalization. There were no cases of the rare but serious side effect of cerebral vein thrombosis, which has so far been associated with the vaccine.

Lauterbach: Don’t neglect Corona

The SPD health expert Karl Lauterbach has warned against neglecting the fight against the coronavirus in the government formation phase. Around the federal election, the topic was pushed into the background, it shouldn’t stay that way, Lauterbach told the newspapers of the “Funke Mediengruppe”. “We have to submit more again,” said the SPD politician. With a view to autumn, he assumes that there will be a seasonal increase in the number of infections. Because in colder weather, the virus spreads faster. He therefore hoped that unvaccinated people could be persuaded to get vaccinated, Lauterbach said.

DKG boss: Those who do not want to be vaccinated are inconsiderate

The head of the hospital society (DKG), Gerald Gaß, has accused people who do not want to be vaccinated of inconsiderate behavior and emphatically called on them to be vaccinated. “We live in a free and democratic society in which there is fundamentally an individual right to illness for everyone. This right to illness must not, however, become a danger to others,” wrote Gaß in an appeal published by the “editorial network Germany “reported. 90 percent of Covid patients in intensive care units are not vaccinated. There are only very few medical reasons that rule out vaccination. “It is an important act of solidarity and social cohesion to protect the scarce and valuable human and medical-technical resources in our hospitals for the seriously ill patients who urgently need them by vaccinating oneself.”

VdK calls for more low-threshold vaccination offers

In view of the imminent closure of most corona vaccination centers, the social association VdK has called for more low-threshold vaccination offers in order to reach socially disadvantaged people. “No more vaccination centers means fewer vaccination offers,” said VdK President Verena Bentele to the “editorial network Germany”. Alternatives are therefore all the more important: if the people do not come to the vaccination, the vaccination must come to the people. “We therefore need more and more mobile vaccination offers, especially for socially disadvantaged and homeless people wherever they are in everyday life: in the pedestrian zone, on the supermarket parking lot, at the sports field, in front of the job center,” said Bentele.

Siemens prepares employees to return to the office

After Corona lockdown and months of home office, Siemens is preparing its employees for a gradual return to the office. “The office is coming back now,” said Siemens board member Matthias Rebellius of the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”. The aim is to achieve “a 50/50 mix between office and home office,” said the manager. Because you shouldn’t lose the “personal solidarity between people at work”. However, this is “only a framework and depends on the tasks” of the employees. In the future, social exchange in the office will be more important than the work itself.
