Because of the Delta variant, municipalities are urging fast retrofitting of schools

In view of the rapid spread of the delta variant of the corona virus, the association of cities and municipalities is urging the schools to be converted quickly. “With a view to the time after the summer holidays, the necessary organizational and spatial conditions must be created in the schools as quickly as possible in order to prevent them from being closed again,” said chief executive Gerd Landsberg to the newspapers of the Funke media group.

“This is all the more urgent as the majority of the children do not fall under the Stiko vaccination recommendation,” Landsberg told the papers. A recommendation from the Standing Vaccination Commission would only partially solve the problem, since no vaccine has yet been approved for schoolchildren under the age of twelve or for daycare children, he added. In order to effectively implement the hygiene measures at the schools, the municipalities, as school authorities, needed a funding commitment from the federal and state governments, Landsberg demanded.

Much criticism of EM attendance numbers

The Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) has urged further caution at the European Football Championship because of the Corona crisis. At the Munich venue and in Germany in general, things have “gone well” so far, Söder told “Bild”. They “made a conscious decision to wait until it became clear how the incidences were developing here,” he said, referring to the admission of spectators in the stadium, and emphasized: “I don’t want it to catch up with us . ” Söder considers it a mistake that more than 55,000 spectators were allowed into the stadium in Budapest.

The Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg Winfried Kretschmann has also sharply criticized the increase in spectators for the Wembley Stadium in London and the previous images of full stadiums at the European Football Championship. “UEFA and the DFB urgently need to ensure that the rules are adhered to. The plan to let even more people into the stadiums, like at Wembley, is blatant,” the 73-year-old told the editorial network Germany. The Green politician urgently warned against a further relaxation of the corona rules for the tournament.
