Seven-day incidence increased slightly
The seven-day incidence of new infections has increased slightly again. According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) in the morning it was 76.9 – the previous day the value was 75.7. A week ago it was 66.0. The health authorities in Germany reported 13,715 new corona infections to the RKI within one day.
A week ago, the value was 12,626 infections. According to the new information, 33 deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours. A week ago there were 21 deaths.

Gassen believes the pandemic will end in spring
Head of statutory health insurance physicians, Andreas Gassen, expects the corona pandemic to end in six to nine months. “I assume that Corona will end in spring 2022,” said the head of the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KBV) of the Düsseldorf “Rheinische Post”. “Until then, the vaccination rate will be a little higher, but above all the number of people who have recovered with antibodies will increase. Restrictions will then probably become completely unnecessary.”
In the fall, the number of infections would rise again, added the KBV chairman. Nevertheless, he sees “in the medical profession no major concerns that the health system could collapse. The number of serious illnesses will remain well below the level of last winter.”

Pediatricians expect vaccine for infants
Pediatricians expect corona vaccines even for infants from 2022. “We are firmly assuming that there will be vaccines for all age groups from next year, even approved for newborns,” says Munich pediatrician Florian Hoffmann, senior physician at the children’s clinic the Ludwig Maximilians University (LMU), the newspapers of the Funke media group. Vaccines for children under the age of twelve are expected by the end of this year.

Medical president against booster vaccinations without STIKO recommendation
Medical President Klaus Reinhardt criticizes the approach taken by the federal and state health ministers to offer booster vaccinations for seniors and immunocompromised people without a corresponding recommendation from the Standing Vaccination Commission (STIKO). “In theory there is a lot to suggest that a booster vaccination can be useful for people with certain previous illnesses, with a weakened immune system and for the very old,” says Reinhardt of the editorial network Germany (RND). Overall, however, there was still a lack of meaningful studies on whether, when and for whom a booster vaccination was indicated.
Politicians have thus fueled expectations among patients that many doctors do not want to serve without a scientifically based vaccination recommendation. “I therefore consider it a mistake that the federal and state governments have widely announced booster vaccinations without waiting for a corresponding recommendation from Stiko,” said Reinhardt.

Report: 15 million doses of vaccine thrown away in the US since March
In the USA, according to a media report, more than 15 million corona vaccine doses have been thrown away since March. As the broadcaster NBC reported, citing data from the health authorities, the reasons for the waste are diverse. In addition to broken ampoules, broken freezers and errors in the dilution of the vaccine, it also happens that prepared vaccine doses are left over and then have to be disposed of after a few hours.
The number of unreported cases could be even higher. According to NBC, the numbers were reported by states and pharmacies. At least seven states and several federal agencies are missing from the statistics.
