Corona virus in Germany: incidence continues to rise rapidly

Status: 01/28/2022 07:12 a.m

The number of infections in Germany continues to climb from peak to peak: According to the RKI, the incidence is now 1073. The situation is particularly dramatic in the city states.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) has reported a significant increase in the nationwide seven-day incidence and thus a new record. The RKI gave the value of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants and week in the morning as 1073.0. For comparison: the day before the value was 1017.4 in the morning. A week ago, the nationwide incidence in the morning was 706.3 (previous month: 215.6).

The health authorities in Germany reported 190,148 new corona infections to the RKI within one day. This is evident from numbers that reflect the status of the RKI dashboard at 5 a.m. A week ago there were 140,160 infections.

Health authorities overloaded in many places

Currently, the RKI often has to correct the daily updated number of cases upwards during the day, as the health authorities are overloaded in many places and only transmit the data with a delay. That is why experts also assume a high and increasing number of infections that are not even recorded in the RKI data. In addition, some cities and districts have been reporting problems with the transmission of the number of corona cases for days.

The RKI explained: “Even if not every individual case is recorded in the reporting system”, “a reliable assessment of the overall development” is possible through additional indicators. For the assessment of the current situation of the pandemic, “the focus is not on recording all infections caused by SARS-CoV-2, but on the development of the number and severity of the diseases”.

City-states with highest incidences

In the meantime, ten federal states have already exceeded the 1000 mark in terms of incidence – it is highest in the city states of Berlin (1829.4), Hamburg (1673.4) and Bremen (1588.7). Berlin is also in the lead when it comes to the highest incidences of all urban and rural districts: Tempelhof-Schöneberg has even exceeded the 3000 mark (3192.2).

Nationwide, the lowest incidences are currently in the eastern German states of Thuringia (402.2), Saxony (546.4) and Saxony-Anhalt (633.9). In the Thuringian district of Greiz, the incidence is only 228.6 and thus lower than in any other district or city in Germany.

170 more deaths

According to the new information, 170 deaths were recorded nationwide within 24 hours. A week ago there were also 170 deaths. The number of people who died from or involved a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 117,484.

The RKI has counted 9,429,079 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections go undetected. The RKI gave the number of recovered people in the morning as 7,494,200.

The number of corona patients admitted to clinics per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days was 4.64 for yesterday (Wednesday 4.26). After a few weeks of stagnation, the value has recently picked up again significantly.
