Corona pandemic: renewed protests in numerous cities

Opponents of the corona measures have protested in several cities. In Magdeburg 3500 participants took to the streets, in Rostock 2900. In Mannheim six police officers were injured while working against a prohibited gathering.

Opponents of the corona protective measures demonstrated in numerous German cities on Monday evening. According to the police, the largest gathering of demonstrators was in the Saxony-Anhalt state capital Magdeburg. Around 3,500 people took part in a protest there.

2000 participants in an illegal gathering

Six police officers were injured in a prohibited demonstration with up to 2000 participants in Mannheim. The Mannheim police said that the people had pulled through the city center in several elevators without observing the distance rules and the mask requirement. Refusals were ignored and some people tried to break through a police line.

The police reported a total of 121 people for violating the assembly law. Another three people would have to expect criminal proceedings for various crimes such as resistance or insult.

Several hundred opponents of the corona measures gathered in Erfurt. According to the Ministry of the Interior, emergency services prevented several groups from demonstrating in the city center. Arrests were made in several places in the Thuringian capital.

Several meetings in Freiberg

The focus of the police operations in Saxony were Chemnitz and Freiberg, where together more than ten meetings had been registered. In Chemnitz, the officers finally stopped an elevator of around 100 people. The number of participants in Freiberg was given by the police as 450 people.

According to the police, more than 500 people took part in registered and unregistered meetings in Bautzen in East Saxony. According to the police, around 150 people gathered in Dresden. A platoon of more than 100 people was disbanded. Administrative offense proceedings were initiated against a dozen people.

Meetings were held in several other locations in the Dresden and Leipzig regions. There were also demonstrations in Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. In Rostock the police counted 2,900 participants, in Neubrandenburg 1,200 and in the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania state capital Schwerin 1,400 people.
