In buses, libraries, mosques or on the edge of the football field: From today, people in Germany can spontaneously get vaccinated in numerous places. The seven-day incidence rose slightly again: It is now 81.9.

In the fight against the corona pandemic, a nationwide vaccination campaign week should bring new progress from today. Every citizen can then be vaccinated against Corona in numerous places under the motto #HierWirdGeimpft without an appointment and free of charge. In addition to the permanent vaccination options, for example in the vaccination centers, numerous temporary offers, for example in libraries or shopping centers, are intended to increase the vaccination rate.

Not just limited to this week

The actions are to be continued after this week, as Chancellery Minister Helge Braun announced on Sunday evening in the ZDF program “Berlin direkt”. “It doesn’t end with the vaccination week, it will continue in the next few weeks.” The direct and citizen-oriented vaccination offers as part of the action week should help to prevent a fourth wave of the pandemic in winter. “If we don’t do anything, it’ll be pretty sure,” said Braun. The result of this is that those who have been vaccinated have to stand back with their operations because unvaccinated people are in the hospitals.

The Association of Towns and Municipalities called for social networks to be more closely involved in the vaccination campaign. It is always helpful “when celebrities from the arts, culture and sport clearly acknowledge vaccination and call for it. Just as we have reading ambassadors, there should also be vaccination ambassadors,” said managing director Gerd Landsberg of the “Rheinische Post”. “The campaign that is now starting must be carried out sustainably – that is, over the next few months – otherwise we will lose the fight against the fourth wave.”

Chancellor Angela Merkel called on citizens on Sunday to take advantage of the offers. “It has never been easier to get a vaccination. It has never been faster,” she said. There will also be vaccination offers from volunteer fire brigades, in the tram, on the edge of soccer fields and in mosques.

The vaccination week lasts until September 19th. Currently around 62 percent of people in Germany are fully vaccinated against Corona. The rate has only continued to rise slowly recently. According to experts, at least 75 percent are necessary to flatten the fourth wave, significantly more to prevent it.

Incidence increased slightly

Meanwhile, the seven-day incidence rose again slightly after several days, to 81.9 from 80.2 the previous day. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reports 5511 new positive tests. That is 762 more than on Monday a week ago, when 4749 new infections were reported.

Twelve other people died related to the virus. This increases the number of reported deaths to 92,618 within 24 hours. In total, more than 4.08 million corona tests have so far been positive in Germany.
