Austria is massively increasing the pressure on unvaccinated people – from Monday only vaccinated and convalescent people are allowed to go to the restaurant, the hairdresser or to events with more than 25 guests. In many places, FFP2 masks are mandatory.
People without a corona vaccination are no longer allowed to visit bars, hairdressers and events in Austria from Monday. For tourism businesses, too, there will only be access after vaccination or recovery (2G rule).
In the future, 2G will also apply to events with more than 25 people. In addition, an FFP2 mask must be worn in all shops, museums or libraries. This was announced by the government in Vienna after consultations with the heads of the nine federal states. “We will have to pull the reins tighter for the unvaccinated,” said Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg.
In Austria, the number of new infections is increasing rapidly in the fourth wave. On Friday, the number of daily new corona infections stood at 9388 – close to the previous record of 9586, which was reached about a year ago.
Pressure on vaccinated people too
As an incentive to get vaccinated for the first time, the government is planning a transition phase. For another four weeks, the first dose associated with a PCR test will count as 2G. In addition, the pressure on those who are already fully immunized is increased so that as many people as possible get a third dose as a booster vaccination: In future, vaccination records will only be valid for nine months after the second partial vaccination.
In Austria, 66.5 percent of the population have full vaccination protection – slightly below the German rate of 69 percent. The seven-day incidence in the Alpine country was last at 522.
