Federal Labor Court: Basic ruling on mini-jobber pay during lockdown

Can mini jobbers insist on getting their wages even if their work was not needed during the corona lockdown? The Federal Labor Court wants to clarify this today in principle – it is the first labor law dispute before the highest German labor court that has its origins in the Corona crisis. Specifically, it is about the case of a woman from Lower Saxony. She had worked as a marginal employee in a branch for sewing machines and accessories as a saleswoman. By order of the authorities, the store had to remain closed for the whole of April during the first lockdown last year. The woman was not needed as a saleswoman. Unlike full-time or part-time employees, mini-jobbers cannot be sent on short-time work. She therefore demands the 432 euros net that the woman had agreed with her employer as remuneration for her work. In her lawsuit, she argues that if the business has to close by order of the authorities, it is an operational risk. Your employer must bear this risk. The woman was successful in the first two instances.

Lufthansa pays back aid faster than planned

Lufthansa received state aid during the pandemic to secure jobs in the company. Now the company has already paid back 1.5 billion euros. The group intends to repay another billion euros by the end of the year. The Federal Republic’s Economic Stabilization Fund (WSF) currently still holds 14.09 percent of Lufthansa’s share capital – in the Corona crisis it was 20 percent. Despite the aid, thousands of jobs have been lost, experts criticize.

Pandemic leads to delivery bottlenecks – even during Christmas business

In the course of the corona pandemic, there is a lack of more and more material in the industry – not only car manufacturers are affected. This means that we can no longer buy everything directly. There could be delivery bottlenecks in the pre-Christmas business. Bicycle dealers have had problems with orders for a long time, but hardware stores and furniture stores can no longer get all the products they want. In addition, semiconductors and computer chips are hard to come by.
