Thousands of people expected to demonstrate against Corona policy in Hamburg

Around 11,000 people are expected to attend a demonstration by opponents of the Corona policy in Hamburg this early afternoon. They want to move through the city center under the motto “The measure is full. Hands off our children”, as the police announced. The officers prepared for a large-scale operation. They also warned of traffic obstructions in the inner city area. Counter-demonstrations were therefore initially not registered. On several Saturdays in December, thousands of people who were against vaccinations took to the streets in the Hanseatic city.

The resolutions of the Bund-Länder-Round of yesterday in the overview:

  • 2G-Plus regulation nationwide in gastronomy: The so-called 2G-Plus regulation will be introduced nationwide in the catering industry. In future, only fully vaccinated or convalescent people who can present a daily negative test result will be allowed to go to bars. Boosted people are exempt from the obligation to test from the day of their booster vaccination. Corresponding rules already apply in northern Germany or will come into force next week.
  • Shortening and simplifying the quarantine times: The quarantine and isolation times for contact persons and Covid-19 sufferers will be shortened and simplified. In the future – regardless of the virus variant type – contact persons who have already received a booster vaccination, have been newly vaccinated twice, have been vaccinated and have recovered or have recently recovered will be exempt from quarantine. For everyone else, isolation or quarantine usually ends after ten days if they do not allow themselves to be “freed” beforehand – this is possible after seven days at the earliest. For school students it is five days. For hospitals and nursing homes, a quarantine can be shortened after seven days at the earliest with a negative PCR test result.
  • Recommendation for the use of FFP2 masks in retail and public transport: When shopping in shops and when using public transport on buses and trains, the use of FFP2 masks is still not compulsory, but is strongly recommended.
  • Economic aid is extended: With immediate effect, companies can apply for Bridging Aid IV, which was decided by the end of March, to compensate for losses and burdens as a result of the corona pandemic. Unlike in the past, the federal government is funding not only material but also personnel costs to implement the access restrictions.

Criticism of quarantine regulations for schoolchildren

The German teachers ‘association and the teachers’ union GEW criticize the planned new regulation of the corona quarantine for schoolchildren. “If this softening of the quarantine rules leads to more infected people running around unrecognized in schools, the shot will backfire,” said Heinz-Peter Meidinger, chairman of the German Teachers’ Association, the newspapers of the Funke media group. The “free testing” through relatively unsafe antigen tests appears to be problematic, especially because these tests are not as meaningful in the first days of an infection.
