Spain and Portugal are now high risk areas

As of today, Germany has classified two popular holiday destinations, Portugal and Spain, as high-risk areas. The USA and Cyprus are also new on the list. Austria, on the other hand, is no longer a high-risk area as of today. Anyone who enters from a high-risk area and is not fully vaccinated or recovered has to be in quarantine for ten days and can only get rid of it with a negative test five days after arrival at the earliest.

In the north, people also vaccinate on public holidays

People in Lower Saxony, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Schleswig-Holstein can also get vaccinated on Christmas and New Year’s Eve. In Hanover, the vaccination centers at the zoo, in the Ernst-August-Galerie and at the Regionshaus are open. Vaccination takes place between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. In Wilhelmshaven, the vaccination shop in the Nordseepassage shopping center is open on December 31 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, only the Rostock district is planning corona vaccinations over Christmas in its vaccination center in Laage. Interested parties can get vaccinated there between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. today and tomorrow. An appointment is not necessary. In Schleswig-Holstein, the vaccination centers in Kiel, Kropp in the Schleswig-Flensburg district, Lübeck and Prisdorf (Pinneberg district) offer public holidays: Those interested can get vaccinated against Corona between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. tomorrow and New Year’s Eve. Günther sees mentality as the main reason for low corona numbers

Schleswig-Holstein’s Prime Minister Daniel Günther (CDU) sees the mentality of his compatriots as one of the reasons for the low number of infections compared to other federal states. “We are a different breed of people,” said Günther of the German press agency. “Wat mutt, dat mutt. That is also evident in such a crisis situation.” Of course, not all Schleswig-Holsteiners liked to adhere to contact restrictions or other corona rules, said Günther. “But it is clear to the people here in the north that such a crisis can only be fought with solidarity and a sense of community and personal responsibility.” This insight is evidently more widespread in Schleswig-Holstein than in some other federal states.

Incidence in Schleswig-Holstein drops to 150.3

477 new infections have been reported in Schleswig-Holstein. That is significantly less than a week earlier when 798 new cases were identified. The seven-day incidence of registered new infections is 150.3 (previous day: 163.8; previous week: 166.6). The hospitalization incidence, which indicates how many corona patients per 100,000 people came to clinics within a week, remained constant at 3.44. 56 seriously ill Covid-19 patients are cared for in intensive care units. This number also remained constant on the previous day. There was another corona death. In a comparison of the districts, the seven-day incidence of the Duchy of Lauenburg continues to be at the top – with 241.5. Flensburg follows with 199.0 and then Stormarn with 197.2. The lowest value is in North Frisia – there it was 100.5.

RKI: Nationwide 22,214 new infections registered

The nationwide seven-day incidence of new infections has fallen again. According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the value is 242.9. The day before it was still at 265.8, a week ago at 321.8. As the RKI further announced, citing data from the health authorities, 22,214 new infections were recorded within 24 hours. The numbers are probably not meaningful, however. The RKI points out that fewer tests are carried out during the holidays and fewer cases are reported by the health authorities. 157 other deaths have been reported related to the coronavirus.
