Corona measures: Lambrecht against discrimination against unvaccinated people

Justice Minister Lambrecht has criticized plans in some countries to grant certain freedoms only to those who have been vaccinated and recovered in the future. Any interference with civil liberties must be well founded and proportionate.

Several federal states are considering allowing freedoms only for vaccinated and convalescent people in autumn – for example when visiting restaurants or fitness studios. Federal Justice Minister Christine Lambrecht has constitutional concerns: “Any interference with civil liberties must be well founded and proportionate,” she told “Welt am Sonntag”. “I don’t see how such a severe restriction could be justified with infection control.”

It makes a difference whether a restaurateur only wants to serve vaccinated and convalescent people within the scope of his contractual freedom or whether the state specifies something, the SPD politician said. An employer is also not allowed to fire an employee who refuses to be vaccinated. “But it is quite conceivable that the employer could assign this unvaccinated worker other duties,” she added.

A further lockdown or the re-launch of the “Federal Emergency Brake” are no longer conceivable from her point of view, explained the Justice Minister. That would hardly be justifiable if a large part of the population had been vaccinated.

There is currently a debate about whether indoor events should continue to be open to those who have recovered, vaccinated and tested (3G regulation). With a 2G regulation, only those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered would be admitted.

Altmaier against new lockdown

Economics Minister Peter Altmaier does not expect another corona lockdown either, despite the rapidly increasing number of infections. “After everything we know today, we can avoid a new lockdown for those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered,” said the CDU politician of the Funke media group. At the same time, however, he showed understanding for restaurants, theaters and event organizers who refused entry to the unvaccinated. They wanted just as well as they could to prevent them from becoming infected.

Seven-day incidence continues to rise

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported 7,050 new infections in the morning. That is 2322 more than on Sunday a week ago. The seven-day incidence rose to 54.5 from 51.6 the previous day. Three other people died related to the virus. This increases the number of reported deaths to 91,976 within 24 hours.
