The incidence in the state capital is 883.4 – and the trend is rising, and there is no end in sight. Wolfgang Schäuble, head of the crisis management team for extraordinary events (SAE), made this clear in his current Corona report on Tuesday: “We assume that the numbers will continue to rise sharply”. Infections in schools and daycare centers in particular had increased, with an increase of 30 percent after the holidays.
But the numbers are going up, especially among 21 to 40-year-olds: they account for almost 50 percent of the infection rate. According to Schäuble, on the other hand, the numbers in the age group of “60-year-olds and upwards” are “encouragingly stable”. Older people would now no longer contribute significantly to the infection process.
The occupancy of the intensive care beds has fallen sharply and is even in the green area of the Bavarian hospital traffic light. According to the head of the crisis management team, “there are no longer the highs” as at the end of 2021.
The run on the vaccination centers is limited
In total, more than 2.6 million vaccinations were carried out in Munich: 1,062,260 first vaccinations, 1,013,540 second vaccinations and 548,764 booster vaccinations. Most vaccinations have so far been carried out in the vaccination centers, but then there are the different practices. But it seems that a certain vaccination fatigue has set in. Schäuble makes it clear that steep climbs are “unrecognizable.” The run on the vaccination centers is “limited”.
Health officer Beatrix Zurek also confirms this development. “The interest is quite restrained,” she says and explains that it is possible, for example, to get an appointment at the Riem vaccination center immediately. There is also “room for improvement” when it comes to children’s vaccinations in the Gasteig, where young people between the ages of twelve and 17 have been able to be vaccinated since January 13. Even if, according to Zurek, it might not be so cool for this age group to be pricked in a lion or polar bear cabin, it is an important and right offer. Despite all efforts and applications, a “vaccination fatigue” can be seen. “You can still do too much without vaccination,” says Zurek.
The capacities of the tests are sufficient. According to Zurek, you have “good buffers”. 150 operators in 298 stations would test, there are 169,000 test possibilities per day. As far as the PCR tests are concerned, the laboratories are at their limit, but there are no material problems. According to Zurek, the labs probably kept a good inventory.
With the increasing numbers, the city is particularly concerned about the waves of illness in the clinics. But there are also fewer and fewer children in schools. Third Mayor Verena Dietl (SPD) emphasizes that the city is following this development closely: “We are keeping a close eye on it”.
