Corona in Bavaria: the number of long and post-Covid cases has risen sharply – Bavaria

In Bavaria, a total of 350,000 cases of long-Covid or post-Covid were counted in the first nine months of 2022. This was explained by Health Minister Klaus Holetschek (CSU), citing figures from the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians. In the whole of 2021, only 150,000 cases became known, the minister emphasized on the sidelines of a network meeting on health services research for the long-term illness.

“Those affected suffer from pathological exhaustion, shortness of breath, concentration, word-finding and memory disorders. The simplest everyday activities such as shopping, walking and showering are difficult,” said Holetschek. It is about symptoms that persist, worsen or reappear more than four weeks after infection.

The aim of the network meeting is to bring those involved in treating the disease closer together. The Free State is funding several research projects, including for long-term corona in children. Bavaria was one of the first federal states to make five million euros available.
