Three years ago, Corona demonstrators managed to occupy the Reichstag steps for a short time. The public prosecutor initiated 346 preliminary investigations. So far there have been six verdicts.

Three years after the brief occupation of the Reichstag stairs at a demonstration in Berlin’s government district, six people have been convicted for their participation. The five men and one woman were sentenced by the Tiergarten district court to fines for breach of the peace, insulting police officers and showing the Hitler salute, as the public prosecutor confirmed on request. The weekly newspaper “Die Zeit” had previously reported.

346 preliminary investigations initiated

According to the report, prosecutors opened 346 investigations, most of them against unknown persons. 89 participants were identified. Fines of between 1,800 and 2,500 euros were imposed on the six convicts from Berlin, Brandenburg and Baden-Württemberg. That emerges from the judgments, according to “Zeit”.

On August 29, 2020, tens of thousands of people in Berlin protested against the corona restrictions. Among them were right-wing extremists, so-called Reich citizens and conspiracy ideologues. At the Reichstag, several hundred demonstrators, many of them from the Reichsbürger scene, broke through a police barricade in front of the Reichstag’s visitor entrance.

With flags and shouts, they ran up the stairs to the Reichstag, where only a few police officers were standing. There was then a heated debate in politics as to how this could have happened. Police used thousands of hours of video footage to identify protesters.
