Cornelia Poletto is like a Teflon pan. Nothing sticks to her, says Tim Mälzer. In “Kitchen Impossible” the facade of the “chic lady from Eppendorf” should get a few cracks. In the podcast “Fiete Gastro” the two spoke in advance about the duel.

“It’s known worldwide that I’m the best Italian chef outside of Italy. I’m Italy. I’m a nonna”. who said it Tim Mälzer, of course. The Hamburger, who once learned from Gennaro Contaldo, has been flirting with his pasta know-how for years. It’s just stupid when, of all people, the chef’s best friend, singer Sasha, calls and wishes for real Italian food from someone completely different for his birthday: Cornelia Poletto.

“What can Cornelia do better than you?” moderator Sebastian Merget Mälzer recently asked in the “Fiete Gastro” podcast. “Cooking,” he replied like a shot from a pistol. He’s been claiming for seven years, that’s how long his cooking show “Kitchen Impossible” has been around, that he’s the best at everything, but Cornelia Poletto is “actually the best Italian chef outside of Italy – at least in mine circle of haze”.

Cornelia Poletto, “the golden retriever among chefs”

Poletto is a star on the gastro scene. The “Poletto”, the first restaurant of the chef, entrepreneur and author, held a Michelin star for ten years. She is now the head of the “Cornelia Poletto” delicatessen and restaurant, and she also owns the “Cucina Cornelia Poletto” cooking school. In 2018, “The Twins by Cornelia Poletto” also opened in Shanghai. The chef became known to a larger audience through numerous TV appearances in shows such as “The Taste”, “Lanz kocht” and “Die Küchenschlacht”. Shows in which Mälzer and Poletto have already met. Now she’s finally making her debut as a challenger on “Kitchen Impossible.”

Mälzer and Poletto have known each other for a long time, they are not friends. But they are similar, according to Mälzer, although Poletto is of course more the Eppendorfer lady, belongs to a certain society and not like he used to regularly suck on the curb of the Hamburger Berg. “If I’m the pit bull of chefs, Cornelia is the golden retriever,” he explained. But: “You shouldn’t be distracted by the cuddly creature, there are also retrievers who snap.” Why did viewers have to wait so long for Poletto’s appearance on the cooking show?

Poletto: “Because Tim can’t lose.”
Mälzer: “Because I need opponents, not victims.”

And further: “How do you want to win sympathy points against Cornelia?” It was already clear in advance that the world would hate him after the show. “She apricot-scented, dame, deliberate in enunciation and I swear and swear and act like a misbehaved kid who smoked the wrong Craig.”

Poletto premiere on “Kitchen Impossible”

In fact, he always described Poletto like a Teflon pan, nothing sticks to it. In “Kitchen Impossible” the Hamburg native should now show a different face. Mälzer made that clear right away, Poletto said in the podcast. After she had already agreed, “he started talking about my terry slippers in chic Eppendorf. ‘You can put the slippers down and not play the perfect pearl Olga from TV'”.

And in fact Mälzer, “the rat” managed to send her into exactly the two kitchens that she doesn’t master. “I thought it was like a rat’s asshole. You don’t do that to a woman,” she scolded. And announced before the duel was broadcast that he wanted to return.

Poletto: “I have to do it again, think differently. I thought too kindly. How nice, how stupid I was.”
Mälzer: “You were arrogant.”

Did the supposedly best Italian chef beat the actually best Italian chef outside of Italy? The “Kitchen Impossible” duel is on March 13 from 8:15 p.m. on Vox and in the stream on RTL+ to see.
