COP27, RN election and Route du Rhum postponed

We hope you were able to enjoy your weekend. We spent these two days checking the news. And it’s time to sum it all up.

1. COP27 opened in Egypt

The COP27 opened this Sunday in Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt to relaunch the fight against global warming. This 27th UN climate conference (COP27) will bring together some 200 countries for two weeks, at the bedside of a planet hit by disasters: historic floods in Pakistan, repeated heat waves in Europe, hurricanes, fires, droughts… The fight for the climate is a “question of life or death”, reminded the Secretary General of the UN Antonio Guterres. But are these conferences still of interest? Our lines of thought are in this article.

Jordan Bardella took the chair of Marine Le Pen at the head of the National Rally on Saturday. But not in serenity, while the deputy of Gironde Grégoire de Fournas received the heaviest sanction within the Assembly, after remarks deemed “racist” by all the other groups. Proof of the ambient malaise, the deputy Grégoire de Fournas was also absent from Congress this Saturday. Bardella was elected after a landslide victory (84.84%) against Louis Aliot. For the first time in fifty years, the president elected by the militants is not a direct member of the Le Pen family.

More than a hundred skippers were waiting to take the start of the Route du Rhum off Saint-Malo, but the weather led the organizers on Saturday to decide to postpone it. They should normally start Wednesday at 2:15 p.m. Many skippers had expressed their fears of seeing the start maintained on Sunday. Some of them had already announced that they would have come to take shelter just after the start if the latter had been kept on Sunday. The Route du Rhum has taken place every four years since 1978 from Saint-Malo to Pointe-à-Pitre in Guadeloupe.
