The controversial Parler app is popular with conspiracy theorists and Trump supporters. It was removed from the app stores after the US Capitol was stormed. Now it is available again in the Google Playstore.
The highly controversial online service Parler is back on Google’s Play Store. The provider has promised to block or delete insulting or other content that violates the rules in the future, Google said on Friday. Parler changed his app accordingly.
The app is particularly popular with supporters of ex-US President Donald Trump and came into focus in January 2021 after militant Trump supporters stormed the US Capitol.
Critics accused the network of not removing calls for violence quickly enough. Apple and Google then removed the Parler app from their stores. However, it has been available again from Apple since May of last year.
20 million users in January 2021
Parler was launched in 2018 and describes itself as a platform for freedom of expression. Since networks like Facebook and Twitter have been taking action against false reports and racist content that glorifies violence, platforms like Parler have become massively popular. Among other things, supporters of Trump, who believe his unsubstantiated allegations of electoral fraud, switched to the platform.
According to the company, the number of users had doubled from five to ten million in November 2020, with more than 4.5 million new users between November 6th and 10th alone. According to the company, the number of users was 20 million in January 2021.
