Contract signing – District Office moves to Riem – District of Munich

District Administrator Christoph Göbel (CSU) has signed the purchase contract for an area in the Messestadt Riem, on which a new location for the District Office is to be built. Göbel confirmed this in the finance committee of the district council at the request of CSU district councilor Helmut Horst. There was an appointment with a notary, said Goebel. However, he is still not allowed to publicly disclose any details about the acquisition of the property, not even about the amount of the purchase price. The district council had subsequently approved 100 million euros in the district budget for the purchase.

A few years ago the district had already tried to buy a property in the trade fair city, but at that time the negotiations had failed. The fact that the purchase has now been successfully completed is “a very good result,” said Göbel in the committee. The district administrator has set the goal of significantly reducing the locations of his authority. In addition to the district office on Mariahilfplatz, the agency’s slightly more than 1,700 employees currently work in seven other locations across the state capital and in the vehicle registration office in the Neukeferloh district of Grasbrunn. The district has to raise around three million euros in rental costs every year.

Therefore, Göbel plans to concentrate the employees at two locations, possibly even at only one – in Riem. In June, the district administrator had indicated a change of course and even brought it into play to give up the historic location on Mariahilfplatz in Munich’s Au. At that time, Göbel said for the first time that the long-planned “two-location strategy” could also become a “one-location strategy”.
