No smartphone can match the screen experience of a television. So why look at photos and videos on your cell phone when you can also do it on TV?

Thanks to modern technology, it is now easy to transfer the content of your smartphone to the TV to transmit – with a cable as well as wirelessly. Sounds easy, and it is. However, the connection options for Android and iOS differ. What you should consider when connecting your phone to the screen, read below:

Connect cell phone and TV wirelessly

Most smartphones and TV sets nowadays have a so-called DLNA certificate – This ensures that you can wirelessly connect different devices from different manufacturers in your private home network (i.e. your WLAN). Run mobile phone and television over the WLAN routeryou only have to search for and play the content of your smartphone via the media server of the TV set.

Another way to connect your smartphone to the TV is offered Miracast as a radio standard. In contrast to DLNA, the content from the mobile phone is mirrored on the TV screen – provided both devices support the radio service. Here, too, age plays a decisive role: TVs that have been on the market since 2013 usually have Miracast pre-installed as standard. If you have an older model, you will need to upgrade your device with an additional one adapter retrofit via the HDMI connection.

Connect your phone and TV with a cable

At least smartphones, apart from a few devices from the Sony brand, are equipped with a mini HDMI connection. Here would already be oneMini HDMI cable suffice to connect the mobile phone to the television – as long as it has its own HDMI connection.

Therefore, if you have a new smartphone with Android operating system, you usually need a cable with an HDMI connector on one side for the TV and a micro USB connector for your mobile phone on the other side. Unless your phone doesn’t have a micro-USB port either – like Apple’s iPhone and iPad, for example. In this case you need an appropriate oneHDMI adapter.

  1. Connect the cell phone to the TV.
  2. Select the appropriate HDMI channel.
  3. Open photos and videos on your phone.

Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV and Google Chromecast

Streaming videos via Netflix, YouTube and Co. is a great hobby for many smartphone users. It is all the more practical if you can connect your mobile phone to the television on the couch at home: The following three devices were specially designed to enjoy films on the big TV screen:

Amazon FireTV: For this purpose, a special TV stick (incl. Alexa remote control) with HDMI connection required, which is plugged into the TV. You are then not only free to call up various apps and streaming services via the Smart TV, but also – if you have one Prime Membership have completed – access to the entire video range from amazon.

AppleTV: Alternatively, the iOS devices can also play all the content of the smartphone via Airplay or. apple tv play on the TV if the TV set is not DLNA-capable. Here, too, only a small box is used, which establishes a wireless connection to the television via the HDMI connection.

Google Chromecast: This is a small computer that connects the cell phone and television wirelessly via an app or the Google Chrome browser. It is also connected via HDMI – the desired service (eg YouTube) can then be selected and your favorite film streamed.
