Spain took over the EU Council Presidency on July 1st. Prime Minister Sánchez has now traveled to Ukraine to start with – with an important goal.

Spain Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has arrived in the Ukrainian capital of Kiev. “I wanted the first act of the Spanish EU Council Presidency to start with (Volodymyr) Zelenskyy,” Sánchez wrote on Twitter this morning, where pictures of his arrival at the train station were also published. The aim of his trip is to convey to Ukraine the continued solidarity of Europe with the invaded country.

The EU will support the Ukrainian people until peace has returned to Europe, Sánchez assured. Ukraine has been fighting off a Russian war of aggression for more than 16 months. In Kiev, Sánchez was supposed to meet Selenskyj, among others. Spain took over the EU Council Presidency for six months on July 1st.
