For months, France, together with other countries, has been mediating between Iran and the United States to restore the 2015 nuclear agreement – and avert a nuclear crisis.

French President Emmanuel Macron has urged Iran in the nuclear dispute to negotiate a solution.

In an hour-and-a-half phone call with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Macron stressed the urgent need to reach an agreement while there was still time, the Élysée Palace in Paris said. With the participation of France and its partners, a solution was found that respects the essential interests of all parties involved and could prevent a serious nuclear crisis. Macron said that Iran must now seize this opportunity and make the political decisions to get the deal in the interest of Iran and everyone.

Germany, France and Great Britain, together with Russia and China, have been mediating between Iran and the United States for months. The aim is to lift US economic sanctions and, in return, to restrict Iran’s nuclear program again. The next few weeks are seen as crucial to whether the 2015 agreement can be revived.
