Germany has already promised Ukraine a total of more than seven billion euros. But Kiev receives by far the largest amount of military aid from another country.

According to the Kiel Institute for the World Economy (IfW) to become the second largest donor of military aid to Ukraine in absolute terms. In the period from February 25 to May 31, Germany increased its commitments by 3.26 billion euros to 7.5 billion euros, the IfW Kiel announced on Thursday. This includes additional main battle tanks, Iris-T air defense systems and other weapons for Ukrainian air defense. The largest pledge of military aid, worth €42.8 billion, came from the United States.

The value of all recorded commitments to Ukraine increased by a good 13 billion euros to a total of around 165 billion euros. Denmark has pledged new military support worth one billion euros for this year alone, including additional Leopard 2 tanks. According to the IfW, Poland has pledged two new military aid packages with a total value of 581 million euros.

So far, however, only a little more than half of all promised heavy weapons have been delivered. Western partners in particular, such as the USA, Germany and Great Britain, increased their commitments, but deliveries lagged far behind. In contrast, Eastern European countries such as the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Poland and Slovakia have supplied more than 80 percent of the heavy weapons pledged.

In its Ukraine Support Tracker, the IfW records military, financial and humanitarian aid that has been promised to Ukraine since January 24, 2022.
