An Israeli soldier and six Palestinians dead. This is the dramatic outcome of a raid by Israeli forces against the Palestinian refugee camp in Jenin, in the West Bank, this Sunday as the war between Israel and Hamas enters its fourth month of conflict.

” She [l’officier tué] was in a military vehicle that was hit by an explosive device,” police said. The raid cost the lives of six Palestinians according to the Palestinian Authority Health Ministry. Early this Sunday, witnesses also reported Israeli airstrikes in Khan Younes, the main city in southern Gaza and the new epicenter of the fighting between soldiers and Hamas, with the official Palestinian Wafa agency counting numerous deaths and injuries.

Hamas structure “dismantled” in northern Gaza Strip

Since October 7, the deaths have numbered in the thousands. During the Hamas attack around 1,140 people, mainly civilians, were killed according to an AFP count based on the Israeli toll. Around 250 people were kidnapped, including around a hundred released during a truce at the end of November. The Israeli offensive left 22,722 people dead in the besieged Gaza Strip, mostly civilians, according to the Hamas health ministry.

On Saturday, the army, which launched its ground offensive on October 27 in the Palestinian territory, announced that it had “completed the dismantling of the Hamas military structure in the north”. “We are now focusing on the center and the south,” said army spokesperson Daniel Hagari, specifying however that Hamas elements were still operating in the north “without structure and without a commander”.
