Concert: drummer Diego Pinera in the Unterfahrt – Munich

The drummer Diego Pinera is an excellent example of the globalization of jazz and the opening of the genre that was triggered by it. At the age of four he began playing his instrument at home in Montevideo. His studies first took him to Havana, then to the Berklee College of Music in Boston and finally to Leipzig. He has lived in Berlin since 2003, but he has always looked beyond the local scene. The best proof is his second act album “Odd Wisdom”, which he released on Sunday, August 21, in the underpass introduces. The quartet of the same name put together for this purpose consists of the US cracks Donny McCaslin, Ben Monder and Scott Colley (for whom the Austrian Hans Glawischnik plays in Unterfahrt). And so the melody lines sound very American, rhythmically, of course, it is far more complex, reaching out to all continents. A fascinating world jazz.
