This woman is a vocal event. Powerful, funny, surprising. In complete darkness, Meredith Monk enters the makeshift stage in the Haus der Kunst, looks for her position in the spotlight, somewhat blinded, and stands there wrapped in bright strawberry red, shimmering with satin. In the petal-cut jacket with bloomers (design: threeASFOUR), the now 81-year-old, who still has a girlish charisma, looks like a flower herself. Her first notes – she calls it “calling” – are not unlike yodeling and sound like an invitation for the audience to come closer to her.
