Everyone perceives their body differently: When it comes to the figure, opinions differ. One feels too thin, the other too fat – and struggles with his little bacon rolls. We should just love each other for who we are, with and without a few pounds too much on our ribs. And even if we would like a slimmer middle in one or the other outfit, there is still no reason to despair. Because thanks to the fashion industry, there are numerous items of clothing that hide your stomach and, on top of that, can conjure up a few pounds. This doesn’t just mean classic shapewear for men and women, but the entire styling. We’ll give you a few tips.

Concealing the stomach: styling tips to imitate

1. Shapewear
Figure-shaping underwear is an effective tool if you want to hide your stomach. Unpleasant cushions are covered by the firm fabric in order to conjure up a slim silhouette. The practical thing about shapewear is that it is worn under clothing and therefore does not come out. If Shirt or body, Girdle or Slip – there is figure-shaping underwear for every outfit. When buying, however, be sure to pay attention to the dress size: Choose your usual clothing, otherwise the material will be too tight and put too much pressure on your skin. Not only is this uncomfortable, it can also cause skin irritation. And another tip: if you want to hide your lower abdomen, you are high waist girdles the better choice. If you want to hide the upper abdomen, the Shapewear under the chest end up.

2. High waist pants
They have not only been trendy for a long time, but also make small rolls of bacon disappear: high-waist trousers from brands such as Vero Moda, Khujo, Vila or zero are, as the name suggests, cut higher and thus not only cover the waist, but also the lower abdomen. The longer cut automatically makes you look taller and slimmer. In combination with a loose-fitting top that you either tuck into your trousers or drop it over your waistband, you get a beautiful silhouette. On the other hand, you should avoid pants that only reach up to the hips and thus emphasize your curves and problem areas more. The same applies to pleats that are unnecessarily bulky and accentuate your body on the wrong curves – and particularly tight tops. Rely on casual and airy cuts.

3. Colorful patterns
Patterns are also a popular stylistic device to cover the stomach with. The most important rule here is: the stronger your figure, the larger the prints should be. So-called all-over prints are also particularly popular this season Shirts, Clothes and Jumpsuitsthat distract from the figure due to the abundance and density of patterns. The same applies to combining two different items of clothing with different prints – for example a striped skirt and a blouse with a floral pattern. They distract from your actual problem areas in a fashionable way. Vertical stripes also achieve a similar effect: they make the upper body appear longer and therefore automatically slimmer. Horizontal stripes, on the other hand, have the bad reputation of being only suitable for slim people. But that’s not true: A single horizontal stripe in the chest area, for example, emphasizes the upper body and conceals the stomach.

4. Dark colors
There is a reason why it is said: black makes you slim. In fact, dark colors can hide the belly by absorbing the light and therefore automatically less eye-catching than light colors. This is how people work who black dresses wear, slimmer than those who wear light colors – because they broaden the appearance. Of course, you don’t have to do without colors entirely to look slimmer. Instead, for example, you can use a dark piece of clothing with bright applications Wear in the shoulder or décolleté area. Or you can try a high cut black skirt or a dark gray one High waist pantsthat you can combine with a colorful top. However, always pay attention to soft transitions, as strong contrasts again apply. And that’s not the point.

5. Flowing fabrics
Jersey is a popular fabric in the fashion industry, but it has one major disadvantage: It is very thin and elastic – it really sticks to the body and thus emphasizes unpleasant problem areas. The same applies to cables and knitwear, which are usually very body-hugging. If you want to hide your stomach, you better rely on flowing and smooth fabrics such as viscose or cotton blends that do not apply. Delicate flounces and Ruffles Above the navel are also allowed: They distract from the center of the body. Also make sure that the clothes you choose are matte and not shiny, as reflective surfaces also apply.

6. Stretching tops
As already mentioned, the stomach can be concealed well with items of clothing that visually lengthen the upper body. Above all, this includes tops, shirts, dresses or sweaters that have a V-neck – or vertical stripes. But button plackets in the middle of the garment or zips can also distract from problem areas. Above all, it is important that the fabric does not end above the hips, but below. Alternatively, you can tuck a long top into the waistband; both the front and the side are ideal so that the fabric can still fall loosely. Are just as suitable for laminating long blouses and Tunicsthat reach over the stomach. It is also important that pendants and oversize tops are more suitable for smaller breasts and empire lines for larger ones.

7. Flattering cuts
Last but not least, there are many cuts that flatter the figure from the ground up. Regardless of whether you want to hide your stomach or not. Above all, this includes A-line dresses: They are cut in such a way that the fabric protrudes sideways from the body and thus skilfully conceals small fat deposits on the stomach. The same applies Empire dresses with a wide-cut cleavage that is gathered under the breast – it distracts from the stomach and emphasizes the bosom. It is similar with clothes that you node or wrap have to. These cuts always help to emphasize the body in other places and to skilfully conceal unpleasant areas.
