Competitive sport with the BMX bike: How two brothers train for the Olympics

The Schlapper family from Norderstedt is BMX crazy. The sons, Kilian and Louis practice the discipline as a competitive sport, the parents are always there. Ideally, the end result is participation in the Olympics. But the road to get there is long – and expensive.

In the 2023 BMX season, one event follows the next: Euro runs, Three Nations Cup, Bundesliga, German Championships, European Championships, World Championships. Always there: the Schlapper family from Norderstedt. In the high phase, Kilian (11) and Louis (14) and their parents Marcus and Vivien hardly get any rest.

The Schlappers then rattled around all of Europe in their camper van. From the German Championships at the beginning of July in Stuttgart, where Louis shone with bronze in his age group Boys 14 and Kilian was fourth (Boys 11), the Schlapper-Mobil drove straight on to the European Championships in Besançon in eastern France and finally stopped in Scotland come. Goal: the BMX World Championships in Glasgow.
