Company apartments: moving in with the boss – Munich

Anyone who stays in a company apartment saves rent and relieves pressure on the market. But among Munich’s major employers, the city’s leaders’ desire for more staff quarters has been falling on deaf ears for years. Something is only happening on a small scale now.

The nurse and the bus driver are usually cited as examples of all the urgently needed skilled workers who are difficult to find in the city because they cannot find a place to live with their salaries in the overheated housing market. Bus drivers and nurses in particular, at least if they are employed by the public sector, have it significantly better than sales people, secretaries or service advisors in the private sector. Private employers in Munich rarely offer a company apartment with cheap rent as part of their job offer – much to the displeasure of Mayor Dieter Reiter.
