Commentary on the IPC: A Record of Wretchedness – Sport

The decision to allow Russian para-athletes to compete in Beijing paints a disturbing picture: organized sport has been deeply corrupted by the world it claims to want to improve.

The official’s words were clear and harsh. He spoke of a Russian government that had failed its para-athletes “catastrophically”; from a cause that goes far beyond the competition. This is how Sir Philipp Craven, President of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), sounded when he collectively banished the Russian Para-Committee shortly before the 2016 Paralympics in Rio: for a collective, state-shielded doping fraud.
