Robert Rossmann, Berlin
Triumphant songs are alien to him, said Friedrich Merz after his victory in the member survey. What you just say so that you don’t appear cocky in the hour of triumph. Humility goes down well. But Merz is actually not facing a pleasant task. He is now something like the rubble man of the CDU. The party fell to 18.9 percent in the federal elections, and the loss of power hurts the Christian Democrats, who are spoiled by the government. The party is disoriented, while the traffic light coalition is celebrating its departure into the future.
