Combustor: It doesn’t matter if there will be an exception for e-fuels – opinion

It was long overdue for the EU to send this clear signal: From 2035 onwards, nobody should buy a new car that can be filled with petrol or diesel. The fossil fuel era for cars is coming to an end, and the industry has the predictability it has so often called for. The debate, fueled by the FDP, which for weeks has only been concerned with the question of what happens to synthetic fuels, so-called e-fuels, is a pointless sideshow. Because whether there will be an exception for this artificial fuel – which is still anything but certain – will not play any role in people’s everyday lives. And that’s just as well.
