Cocoa is becoming more expensive faster than any other raw material – Economy

Four million square bars of chocolate leave the Ritter Sport factory in Waldenbuch, Baden-Württemberg, every day. That’s roughly 400 tons and 15 large truckloads. But now they see supplies in danger, especially when it comes to the most important ingredient, cocoa. The raw material has been becoming increasingly scarce and more expensive on the world market for months. “The supply is no longer secure,” says company spokesman Thomas Seeger, who has been in business for 23 years. “We’ve never experienced anything like this before.”
