Coburg: Fugitive sex offender caught – Bavaria

The 47-year-old, who stormed through a window in the courthouse on Monday, was picked up by the police.

The 47-year-old, who fled the Coburg district court on Monday, was caught by emergency services. After a tip from a witness, a search patrol managed to arrest the escaped prisoner in Grub am Forst in the Coburg district in Upper Franconia. The police had searched for the sex offender on Monday and on Tuesday night with a large contingent. Helicopters and police dogs were also used.

After the search was also unsuccessful during the night, a road user dialed the emergency call at 11:20 a.m. He had seen the escaped prisoner on Ebersdorfer Strasse in Grub am Forst. Police officers were able to arrest the man within minutes. He offered no resistance. As it turned out when checking his identity, the police headquarters in Upper Franconia said it was undoubtedly the person he was looking for.

The man, whom the public prosecutor has accused of multiple sexual abuse of two of his underage daughters, had stormed through an apparently insufficiently secured window of the justice building in Coburg during a break in the hearing. His ankle cuffs had previously been removed during the trial – and not put back on when he went to the toilet. In his absence, he was sentenced to five and a half years in prison on Monday.
