Coal is still important for electricity supply. But some power plants are currently being taken offline in order to achieve the phase-out by 2030. Whether they are really unnecessary and what alternatives there are.

Of all people, the Greens, as a coalition party, gave coal a small comeback in Germany, unexpectedly, after all, there was an energy crisis. The energy supply is secured, said Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck, and the affected power plants are “now superfluous and can finally be taken off the grid”.
