Together with Janine Wissler, she had led the left for a good year. Now Susanne Hennig-Wellsow is stepping down with immediate effect. One of the reasons she gave was the recently uncovered sexism in the party.

The Federal Chair of the Left, Susanne Hennig-Wellsow, has announced her resignation with immediate effect. She published a corresponding statement on her website.

“I am stepping down from my position as Left Party leader with immediate effect,” she wrote. Hennig-Wellsow had led the Left Party together with Janine Wissler since the end of February 2021.

As reasons for her resignation, she cited her personal life situation, how sexism was dealt with in the party and an urgently needed renewal of the left. “New faces” are needed for this.

“Hennig-Wellsow gives three reasons for her resignation”, Sarah Frühauf, ARD Berlin
