CNews and BFMTV neck and neck in December

The 24/7 news channels are neck and neck. In December, CNews and BFMTV placed themselves at the top of the news channels, tied with 2.6% audience share, the first announced on Monday, citing figures from Médiamétrie.

BFMTV remains the leading news channel for the whole of 2023, with 3% audience share, compared to 2.3% for CNews which is placed second on the podium. LCI follows with a 2% audience share, and the public channel France Info brings up the rear (0.8%).

CNews in the lead for two weeks

CNews, of which Pascal Praud is the main headliner, has narrowed the gap in recent months, to the point of placing itself as the leading news channel in France over a full week on at least two occasions in December (from 4 to 10 then from 18 to 24), whereas it had never been before in its six years of existence.

CNews belongs to the Canal+ group, itself controlled by Vivendi, the group of billionaire Vincent Bolloré. Regularly accused by left-wing figures of promoting the ultraconservative ideas attributed to Vincent Bolloré, CNews was created in 2017 from the ashes of iTélé. A massive strike took place there in 2016 after Vincent Bolloré took control.
