Some rich people emit thousands of times more CO₂ than ordinary people. It is high time to curb these luxury emissions – and at the same time to do something about the rising inequality.

Hardly anyone knows how rich some rich people really are. That’s why researchers in the US dug into public databases and determined how many yachts, houses and airplanes well-known billionaires own. They found out that some super-rich probably Thousands of times as much carbon dioxide blow into the atmosphere like ordinary people. In addition to the increasing inequality of income and wealth, a new divide between rich and poor is increasingly coming into focus: climate inequality. If you pollute a lot, you should pay more and pollute less – also in Germany.
