Cliff jumping: Schmidbauer starts what may be her last season – Starnberg

When Iris Schmidbauer throws herself down from 20 meters to dive into the water after three somersaults and a double twist, then she knows: “I dare to do something that nobody else dares to.” That was the case back then, when she didn’t just jump straight from the ten-meter tower like the other children and young people in Utting am Ammersee, but showed a bit of acrobatics. And that’s still the case today, when the 27-year-old jumps off spectacular cliffs and ramps in the most beautiful places in the world. Only three women in the world can master this difficult jump from a dizzying height. Schmidbauer is Germany’s best female cliff diver. In 2019 she secured a permanent starting place for the international cliff diving competitions for the first time with eighth place in the overall standings of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series.
