The next summer universities of La France Insoumise (LFI) and Europe Ecologie-Les Verts (EELV) are to welcome the rapper Médine. But this Friday, the Minister of Transport Clément Beaune asked the parties to reconsider their invitation, the singer being accused of anti-Semitism. Medina, whose participation in these political meetings with the two left-wing parties has sparked heated controversy, is the subject of new accusations for messages posted Thursday on the X network (ex-Twitter) and targeting actress and writer Rachel Khan .
“I will always fight the extreme right. You are precisely playing the game with this unworthy invitation, ”said Clément Beaune to LFI and the leader of the environmentalist party Marine Tondelier. “It’s time to come to your senses,” added the minister on X, calling one of the rapper’s last messages “despicable”.
An attack on “Rachel Khan’s career path”
In this post published on Thursday, Médine called the Franco-Gambian artist and essayist Rachel Khan a “resKHANpée”, namely a “person who was thrown out of the Hip-Hop place, drifting among social traitors and eating in the proper sense of the table of the far right”. Message to which Rachel Khan, Jewish and granddaughter of a deportee, reacted on X with: “It’s all said…”, leading to a flood of comments on the anti-Semitic character of the pun invented by the rapper.
“No ambiguity. I attacked Rachel Khan’s career path. The unsuitable formula, which certainly must have offended people and I apologize for it, was not directed to his family or to the victims of the tragedy of the Holocaust, ”he then posted on Friday on X. This This new incident adds to the smell of sulfur surrounding the invitation to Medina for the summer universities of LFI and Europe Ecologie-Les Verts, at the end of August.
Call for “social justice”
Since the announcement of his arrival by the national secretary of EELV Marine Tondelier, voices have been raised to accuse the artist of anti-Semitism, homophobia, communitarianism, and acquaintances with Islamism, in the light of certain song interviews, or past positions. The one who grew up in Le Havre has always denied being anti-Semitic or having links with Islamism, without going back on his most criticized gestures or statements.
In one of his last interviews, in the anti-capitalist magazine “Ballast” dated July 15, the artist opposes all forms of discrimination, calling for “social justice”, the fight against “extreme right” and the end of the “mechanisms of oppression which strike at the same time the LGBT populations, the racialized, the feminists”.
