If Iran thought it could use threats to silence Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock’s criticism of the crackdown on the protests, Chancellor Olaf Scholz pointed this out in his Video Podcast on Saturday gave a thankfully clear answer: “I can only say to the leadership in Tehran: What kind of government are you that shoots at its own citizens? Anyone who acts like this must count on our resistance.” Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian had warned of the consequences for the “long-term relationship” that Berlin could choose between working together to solve common challenges and confrontation.
