Character creation in Baldur’s Gate 3 gives you the choice of 12 different classes. We show which of these are the best in the Tier List.

Hamburg – If any development studio can be trusted to bring the ordered chaos of pen-and-paper role-playing games to the home screen, it has to be Larian Studios. In Baldur’s Gate 3, the Belgian studio wants to make the full Dungeons & Dragons experience playable on the PC. This also includes an extensive selection of classes in character creation. Baldur’s Gate 3 provides you with a total of 12 different classes and we show you which of these are the best in the Tier List.

Baldur’s Gate 3: Classes Tier List – Plenty of choice in the S tier

The 3 key points for a strong class: If you are looking for the best class in Baldur’s Gate 3, you have to distinguish between three different cornerstones. Breaking it down broadly, the game – and virtually every other RPG – consists of just three core gameplay elements. Each class has different advantages and disadvantages in each of these aspects, but the best classes have a benefit to the party in every situation.

  • Battle – Describes how well a class performs in combat situations. Includes actions such as active enemy killing, group support abilities, and crowd control against groups of enemies.
  • social – Those who struggle in combat can also deal with others in a non-violent manner. Those who are strong in social situations have good charisma, can persuade or intimidate others, or, in an emergency, use magic to steer the conversation in the desired direction.
  • exploration – The world of Baldur’s Gate 3 is full of mysteries. Exploration describes how well a character can move within it and exploit its hidden potential. Be it recognizing secret switches and traps, moving unseen through the world, or discovering treasures in remote places.

This is the animal list: For Baldur’s Gate 3, we don’t need to break the tier list into too many categories. This time the list extends from S-Tier, the strongest category, down to C-Tier, the weakest category. We skillfully skip D and F, because luckily none of the 12 classes are really rubbish. However, it is important for all classes that you build them correctly. We have also collected the best builds in Baldur’s Gate 3 for you. Here’s how we would classify the tier list of classes:

BullCleric, bard, paladin
A tierSorcerers, Warlocks, Mages, Fighters
B tierBarbarian, Rogue, Druid, Ranger
C tiermonk

There is no wrong choice: Of course, in a tier list, there is necessarily a distinction between “strong” and “weak” classes. But that doesn’t mean you can make a bad or wrong choice. Each class in Baldur’s Gate 3 has a reason for being, and you’ll be able to play through the game with all of them. In addition, you can change your character and its class at practically any time. More important in Baldur’s Gate 3 is what class composition you have in your group.

After all, the druid in Baldur’s Gate 3 is not as powerful as in Blizzard’s current release. In Diablo 4, the druid leads the Tier List classes, and by some distance.

Baldur’s Gate 3: Tier List shows the strongest classes – but none is really bad

The strongest classes in the game: There are three classes in Baldur’s Gate 3’s S tier, with the often underestimated bard leading the way. It may seem fun to chant around the battlefield with a lute at the ready, but the Bard consistently proves to be a hugely important support class for the party. The bard’s buffs can turn a hopeless situation into its opposite, and bards are often extremely charismatic.

The same applies to clerics and paladins. Both are tremendously useful to the party, especially as they play a vital role in party survivability as healers or tanks. Due to their numerous subclasses, clerics in particular are extremely versatile, depending on how they are needed in the current group combination. Paladins, on the other hand, can not only take a beating in Baldur’s Gate 3, they also come with a few abilities for massive single-target damage.

The weakest class: The monk settles alone in the C tier. Again, that doesn’t mean Monk is a weak class per se. Basically, he is very versatile and a strong class for close combat, especially in the early game, but can take less damage than other classes. Also, the Monk requires both Dexterity and Wisdom to level up, making it generally a bit weaker than other single-attribute classes.
