Frederik and Mary opened the sailing season on the ship Dannebrog. The royal couple also exchanged loving gestures.

King Frederik X (55) and Queen Mary (52) of Denmark boarded the royal yacht Dannebrog on Thursday, kicking off their first sailing season as a royal couple.

As stated on the palace’s social media channel, the guns of Battery Sixtus fired 27 shots as the Dannebrog passed. The 92-year-old royal ship with their majesties on board then sailed on to Elsinore, where they were also celebrated with a gun salute from the cannons at Kronborg Castle.

Mary and Frederik arm in arm in the bright sunshine

The traditional embarkation marked the start of this year’s sailing season, during which the King and Queen will, among other things, embark on a Commonwealth cruise. The photos released show a cheerful couple greeting the cheering crowd in the bright sunshine. The two cut a good figure in a dark blue uniform and an elegant dark blue dress with white polka dots and a white fascinator.

Another clip released shows the real highlight, at least for royal fans. Because here Mary and Frederik arm in arm wave to the onlookers. A loving gesture with which they probably wanted to take some wind out of the sails of the simmering rumors of marital crisis.

The traditional day was ceremoniously ended in the evening in front of Fredensborg Castle with greetings, flags and singing. For the finale, the royal couple changed into more casual outfits, as the pictures from the event show.

Frederik and Mary have been a royal couple since January

Frederik and Mary have been the new Danish royal couple since January 14th. Frederik’s mother, the former Queen Margrethe (84), surprised the nation in her New Year’s speech in 2024 by announcing that she would abdicate as monarch in January after 52 years.
