Their names are Miri, Remmo or Al-Zein, and they’re back in the headlines. Not this time because men bearing these names were involved in spectacular crimes such as the robberies in Berlin’s Bode Museum or in Dresden’s Green Vault. But because Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) wants to facilitate the expulsion of people who are suspected of belonging to a criminal organization. The so-called clans – criminal gangs whose members some investigative authorities define by their common family name – are expressly targeted by this project. In North Rhine-Westphalia, this list includes 113 names.
