City politics – much to report – Ebersberg

“Am I in there yet?” With this slogan, a large telecommunications provider advertised customers in the early days of the Internet and promised easy connection to the global network. In some parts of Ebersberg, however, the early days of the Internet have never quite passed, the connection to the global network is anything but easy – and the answer to the initial question is far too often “no”. How that could be changed will be the subject of Tuesday’s meeting of the Ebersberg Finance, Economic and Digital Committee.

The agenda includes a progress report on broadband expansion – not the first in recent years. Because the question of how the Internet can be accelerated in the outdoor areas has already preoccupied the old city council, the first corresponding decision was made in the summer of 2017. Almost a year later, the tender was issued. At first it looked promising, two companies submitted offers: Amplus and Deutsche Telekom – but both then withdrew, so that the city had to tender again. There was an offer here again, this time from the company Deutsche Glasfaser, whose price expectations were not shared by the city: minus the funding, Ebersberg would have had to raise an own contribution of around 2.3 million euros.

The new city council then started a new attempt last year to get fast internet for Angermann, Bärmühle and Pollmoos, barrier cutter, Au, Gsprait, Dieding, Aepfelkam and Traxl, Vorder- and Hinteregglburg, Hörmannsdorf, Zieglhof, Egglsee, the Ludwigshöhe and Mailing . This time they want to use a new funding program that is financed by the federal government and the Free State. A commitment for funding of 1.2 million euros was already received in March, the total volume of the network expansion is estimated at around 2.5 million euros. The invitation to tender is currently running, and specific offers are expected in August.

At least indirectly related, there is another item on the agenda: the budget report for the second quarter of 2021. Despite Corona, last year ended comparatively well for the city financially, as it looks like this year until the end of June, the finance department will present at the meeting.

Which is also important information in view of the city’s numerous major projects. Because of the pandemic, some projects were postponed last year, but this year things are going to start: The renovation of the indoor pool is already underway, the Oberndorf school and the forest sports park are to be tackled in autumn, and the St. Sebastian kindergarten is on the agenda for the coming year. In any case, provided that the income develops as it was forecast in December when the budget was approved.

What you will have to pay for waste disposal in the city in the future is also on the agenda. The committee is discussing a change to the fee statute, but this has to be decided by the city council, which will meet again on July 27th.

The meeting of the Committee for Finance, Economy and Digital on Tuesday, July 6th, starts at 7 p.m. in the meeting room of the town hall.
