In order to open up additional sports opportunities for young people, the Wiesenwerkstatt association, together with committed parents, has repeatedly purchased soccer goals and set them up on public green spaces. In this way, Spindlerplatz in Solln has temporarily turned into a popular meeting place for young footballers. However, these arbitrary activities are a thorn in the side of the city administration. After a short written request to remove the gates, she did it herself.
The club reacted with outrage at the actions of the city. “The goals, which we paid for ourselves, weren’t even placed directly on the field, but behind a construction trailer. In addition, these were goals that were regularly bought in a sports shop, i.e. not home-made, which would have been unsafe,” complains club spokesman Marc Pütz. He doesn’t understand why initiative is punished, “especially in the pandemic, in which children are known to suffer from a lack of exercise and weight gain”.
From the point of view of the city administration, the removal of the football goals was legal and necessary. The use of green spaces is clearly defined; converting it into a football pitch, as in the present case, is not one of the measures permitted. A message that is said to have caused “quite a bit of anger” among the parents.
